The match between No. 5 Taylor Fritz and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard was suspended before the fifth set due to local curfew. Mpetshi Perricard took the first two sets before Fritz evened the match by winning the next two.
Mpetshi Perricard was two points away from winning while leading 5-2 in the fourth-set tiebreaker before Fritz came back to steal the set and extend the match.
The decision to postpone was met with booing from the crowd while Fritz, who looked to be frustrated by the call, unsuccessfully pled his case to continue. The match on the No. 1 Court was played with the retractable roof closed and artificial lights on.
Wimbledon has an 11 p.m. local curfew, and matches can be stopped before then if the umpire believes there is a chance they will not finish on time.
No. 3 Alexander Zverev and Arthur Rinderknech’s match was also suspended. It’s tied 1-1 heading into the third set. Neither player broke serve in each of the two sets they played.
Both matches will resume on Tuesday.
